Delegates who have participated and successfully completed the PCPSD course are eligible (pending other university requirements being satisfied) to take a further three credit course jointly organised with Wroxton College, near Banbury, which is part of Fairleigh Dickinson University. Successful completion of this course will result in their being awarded the University’s Graduate Certificate in Global Leadership and Administration (a Diploma level certificate).

This course consists of a blend comprising an on-line element and a 2 day residential seminar at Wroxton College in Oxfordshire. This would comprise a minimum of 45 contact hours, which is a State accreditation requirement.

Two Day Seminar Masterclass on Leadership & Communication

Wroxton College 2nd – 4th July 2008

Overall Objectives and Outcomes:

  • To enable participants to lead more effectively at whatever level in the civil service they find themselves operating.
  • The emphasis would therefore be upon getting the best out of a team and making those responsible keen on showing initiative in every way.
  • An important part of this would be the discussion of effective communication and the ways in which to explain a group's mission to its members and how its activities can fit into the wider picture.

Sessional Objectives & Outcomes:

  • To understanding the nature of leadership, its opportunities and demands at all levels
  • To gain insight into delegates’ own leadership behaviours and to build a strategy to improve some areas and to build on others
  • To digest a structured process for leading change
  • To understand the crucial importance of communication at every stage of the decision making process
  • To understand the various forms of communication within an organisation
  • To identify key methods of communication plotted against an organisation's stakeholder
  • To enable participants to identify, discuss and explore the various styles of communication which they can implement to improve processes within their own workplace

Organisational Benefit:

  • Participants will be able to apply their leadership skills confidently, with greater impact on the organisation's priorities
  • Participants will be enabled to assist organisational change by sharing a structured approach
  • Participants will learn how to deliver effective leadership at every level of the organisation and get into the habit of being innovative and inspirational in the eyes of their professional colleagues
  • Organisations will gain the benefit of participants making a contribution to corporate issues, not confined to their functional specialism
  • Participants will improve their awareness of the variety of communications skills and channels available for use within their own organisations
  • Participants will be able to identify best practice and areas for improvement within their own workplace, through confidential individual and plenary discussion
  • Organisations will benefit from an improved awareness of the potential structures available to improve communications both internally and externally
